“I guess I forgive you,” she says.

“That’s a relief,” Desiree croaks, and she’s annoyed at her voice for giving her away. She already misses Maisie’s hands. She’s already daydreaming about them sliding up under her shirt, over her ribs.

“Let me grab you a pillow or a blanket or something,” Maisie says, turning away, and Desiree crosses her arms. The apartment is cool now without Maisie standing so close to her.

“I only get one?” she jokes, and Maisie shakes her head.
